Goodreads review posted 1-1-2026   I have to admit that I took a chance on this book solely because a dog and his boy were on the cover. I wasn't disappointed whatsoever. This was a very touching story and very well written. I'd gladly read more of this author's work in the near future.

The new book is near release. This Cold War era historical fiction combines the authors personal experiences on the front lines in Germany during one of the most tumultuous times in American history . The title hints at the conflict between a young American intelligence officer seeking to uncover treasons initiatives by an officer with a heritage of one of the finest and most historic U.S. military families. Who is Mabel Brown?

Roy first meets Mabel at her upstairs apartment when she requests delivery of the daily Times. Some readers believe Mabel is a fortune teller or a clairvoyant while others suspect something more. Her ability to summon the Spirits of the Future brings direction and hope to the 13 year old at a time when he needs reassurance and confidence. Among her other attributes and interests Mabel is a sweet mentor to a teen growing up in the small town of Issaquah in 1962.

His writing blends humor, mystery, and heartfelt moments, making Roy Nilsson’s journey feel universal. The lush backdrop of Issaquah gives the memoir a soul, and its mentors and mystical elements elevate it beyond a typical coming-of=age story.

Follow October 1, 2025 Heartfelt, Honest, and Beautifully Real What makes The Stranger In Me stand out is how it captures the awkwardness, humor, and wonder of growing up without feeling forced or overly sentimental. Roy Nilsson is flawed yet endearing, and the book’s slice-of-life moments—sometimes funny, sometimes painful—feel lived-in and true. A rich cross-generational read.

September 30, 2025 The Stranger in me is a heartwarming novel about a young boy, Roy Nilsson, growing up in the once rural community of Issaquah (Squak Valley) in Western Washington during the 1950s and 1960s. With vivid detail, this story shares Roy’s experiences as a boy growing up on a farm and learning how to work hard and appreciate nature. It also shows the challenges and growth that come with change: moving into town, new schools, the eb and flow of friendships, juggling jobs and hobbies, loss of loved ones, and figuring out the next steps in life.  Written with warmth and touch of intrigue, this story can connect with readers both young and old. The author illustrates beautiful imagery of the mountains and farmlands in the Pacific Northwest while sharing valuable lessons in a fun and nostalgic way.  “Each person in this life has endless, limitless, infinite potential. There will be spots that blind your vision when you can’t see what’s right in front of you. Just trust...
