Review from Emily H

The Stranger in me is a heartwarming novel about a young boy, Roy Nilsson, growing up in the once rural community of Issaquah (Squak Valley) in Western Washington during the 1950s and 1960s.

With vivid detail, this story shares Roy’s experiences as a boy growing up on a farm and learning how to work hard and appreciate nature. It also shows the challenges and growth that come with change: moving into town, new schools, the eb and flow of friendships, juggling jobs and hobbies, loss of loved ones, and figuring out the next steps in life.

Written with warmth and touch of intrigue, this story can connect with readers both young and old. The author illustrates beautiful imagery of the mountains and farmlands in the Pacific Northwest while sharing valuable lessons in a fun and nostalgic way.

“Each person in this life has endless, limitless, infinite potential. There will be spots that blind your vision when you can’t see what’s right in front of you. Just trust in yourself and in the universe. Your path will unfold and be disclosed to you.”
