  • “The Stranger in Me” by Russ Munson is a delightful read that follows the adventures of a young boy named Roy Nilson as he grows up in Squak Valley. This historic novel reads as though sitting with a favorite relative, sharing stories of their childhood. Adults will feel nostalgic about the simplicity of growing up in the 1950s to 1960s, while children wonder about the mystery that is personal discovery.
  • The story begins with seven-year-old Roy moving to live on a farm with his mother. Farm life teaches him many valuable lessons, as well as an appreciation for nature and the importance of a hard day’s work. He also gains the friendship of a canine companion with whom he shares many adventures and mischief. As Roy grows, he gains a sense of community through different experiences and relationships. Each person young Roy meets in his childhood teaches him valuable lessons in being humble, listening to nature, learning to love, grief following loss, mysteries, and seeing the value in the stories everyone carries with them. Each story gives insight into how to use lessons for personal growth, and discovery.
  • This novel is truly an excellent read for any age. Older readers will enjoy the tales and relatable childhood moments, while younger generations will learn from the curiosities hidden within. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to read this novel and I will be sharing it with many others. I happily leave this novel a five- out-of-five rating.
